POSITION TITLE:  Director, Marketing and Member Resources

DEPARTMENT:  Marketing and Member Resources


JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Works with the Senior Staff Team and the Board of Directors to develop, update and implement the Mission, Vision statement and the goals articulated in the Long Range Plan for the Appraisal Institute. Responsible for coordinating the marketing of products and services for designated, associate and affiliate members, prospective members and students, and for constituencies beyond the member student market. The Director of Marketing is responsible for management of all Appraisal Institute marketing efforts including the organization’s branding initiatives. As part of the senior leadership team, the incumbent will develop and implement strategic marketing plans that will significantly increase new revenue streams, membership and membership retention. Currently, the marketing, member resources and service center, and business development functions, as well as the publications staff, report to the Director of Marketing and Member Resources.

Direct all marketing activities of the association, including marketing support to chapters and the membership; directing an institutional advertising program; preparing long –range and annual marketing plans; facilitating the coordination of marketing initiatives by the various departments; conducting market research to identify potential audiences/markets; responsible for the development and maintenance of annual department budgets.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Reports to the Chief Executive Officer

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Effectively develop annual membership and marketing plans that effectively market the AI and educates members and the public regarding issues while maximizing support of the Appraisal Institute’s strategic goals and initiatives. 
  2. Develop and maintain effective and measurable member recruitment and retention programs.
  3. Identify opportunities and trends to increase brand awareness and grow membership and revenue
  4. Ensure marketing efforts and  communications are coordinated across departments and support marketing plan objectives as well as meet organizational budget requirements.
  5. Responsible for  management of AI Service Center ensuring service center staff receive regular up-to-date and consistent information to perform their duties accurately and effectively.
  6. Conduct direct market research, membership retention and member customer service.
  7. Evaluate member benefits, identify areas of need and manage acquisition/introduction of new member benefits.
  8. Establish member feedback mechanisms that assist in measuring member and client satisfaction, and help determine a course of action or response.
  9. Collaborate with and build strong relations with the AI support departments such as education and governance.
  10. Oversees all aspects and operations of Appraisal Institute chapters and regions
  11. Develop and implement plan  for annual Chapter Leadership Program
  12. Direct brand and communications strategic and tactical planning by establishing guidelines for adherence to brand identity and taking into account market trends, organization and industry information, and research.
  13. Directing product marketing initiatives. 
  14. Manage marketing and business development activities of Appraisal Institute products and services.
  15. Develop and maintain marketing and other  membership tools for officers, chapters and members.
  16. Prepare long-range and annual marketing plans for the association 
  17. Oversee solicitation of advertising in Valuation I magazine and other association advertising vehicles (web site, catalog, directory) to create maximum revenue and profitability.
  18. Develop and maintain vendor and advertiser relationships.
  19. Manage exhibit and sponsorship sales and oversee on-site exhibits registration and program.
  20. Directs and supervises the staff in the overall management of marketing and sales, member resources, service center, publications , and graphic design.
  21. Responsible for  Appraisal Institute’s electronic marketing efforts including supervision of web site design and maintenance.
  22. Work with outside agencies when appropriate to develop effective marketing and advertising program.
  23. Identify and pursue opportunities for promotion of members through a variety of media.
  24. Carry out other activities as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, advertising, or related fields.

Demonstrated leadership ability

Effective verbal, written, communication, and persuasion skills

Must be service oriented


KNOWLEDGE:

Must have experience and working knowledge of marketing and sales, communications, public relations, advertising, development and promotions.

Must have the ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate operating plans and organizational goals and objectives

Must display a working knowledge of computer operations, finance, human resources, planning and organizational skills


EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 10 years professional experience is required.

Association or not for profit experience coupled with a business and management background preferred.
