New MAI Advanced Education Equivalencies

As the new Advanced Education courses are released, the corresponding old courses will be retired. If a general Associate member has not completed any of the current education requirements by the date the course(s) retires, he or she will need to take the new equivalent Advanced Education course/exam(s).

Please see the chart below for details on the when the current courses will retire, and which courses will replace them.

General Appraiser Report Writing & Case Studies has been deemed equivalent to Report Writing and Valuation Analysis for the MAI Advanced Education requirements.  The general Associate member must take and pass either Report Writing and Valuation Analysis or General Appraiser Report Writing & Case Studies to meet that report writing course requirement for the MAI.  Report Writing and Valuation Analysis retired at the end of 2010.  General Associate members who did not receive credit for Report Writing and Valuation Analysis by the end of 2010 will need to take and pass the Appraisal Institute course and exam for General Appraiser Report Writing & Case Studies.

*Note: General Associate members who pass the Appraisal Institute General Market Analysis and H&BU exam prior to June 1, 2011 will receive equivalency credit for the new Advanced Market Analysis and Highest & Best Use exam for their MAI advanced education requirements. After June 1, 2011, general Associate members who have not previously received equivalency credit will be required to pass the new Advanced Market Analysis and Highest & Best Use exam instead. Additionally, a new course, Quantitative Analysis is scheduled to be released January 2012.  This course will be a required part of the MAI Advanced Education for general Associate members who join after January 1, 2012.
